As any regular reader of our updates know that for email marketing there are three key elements to getting it right and these are;
- what you send
- when you send
and finally - who you send your message to
It should be second nature that any of your business marketing communication to generate the return your business needs then it needs to be compelling enough to be acted upon. If you get things wrong you will fail to get the return you expect, and if you get it really wrong you might even damage your brand and business.
So if you are regularly composing bulk business emails these are some suggestions as to how to create optimised marketing communication that can benefit your business.
Try to be unique
Now I know that this isn’t easy in the very content heavy world we live in, but please at least try! You can look for key phrases that may target your potential customers, doing this will help and encourage them to read more.
Who are you targeting?
Don’t just blanket send to everyone if it is a specific message, if you do that you won’t get much engagement so think about your audience and what they may want to receive them try and target your message at them, that may mean you send to a smaller group but if that is more successful surely that is a good thing isn’t it?
What is it you want the recipient to do?
You don’t need to over complicate your email communication, don’t waffle on and one as you have mere seconds before your potential email will be deleted!
Have you got a great Subject line?
This is the first thing the recipient will see so make it short, clear and precise and try and tailor it so it generates interest in the recipient to read more, also you can include relevant keywords if this helps?
As a footnote on this don’t use spam words like SALE or FREE as you will just get lots of your emails blocked by spam filters and potentially damage your brand reputation.
And finally, don’t forget to remind the recipient who you are
This is a common mistake, someone may have signed up months ago so don’t forget to say in your email who you are and what you business does, this can be easily done with a great closing paragraph so you don’t lose the opportunity to create real impact in your opening first paragraph that appears above the fold. Also don’t forget to include all your company contact details, phone, email and be address – these are often forgotten or hidden.
