Is your email marketing failing to convert?

You are here: Home / customers / Is your email marketing failing to convert?

26 January 2016 //  by GleaveMedia

When email marketing is used correctly the results can be remarkable. But for a huge number of businesses their email marketing is failing to convert.

You may be thinking “what’s the worst that can happen?” Well, actually, quite a few bad things can happen if you do get it wrong. Firstly, you will miss out on gaining new customers, secondly, you may damage your reputation by becoming known as a spammer and finally, you could actually be driving potential customers into the arms of your competition.

If you find your email marketing campaigns are failing, you need to stop and reevaluate before you cause any long lasting damage. In this post, we share some of the most common mistakes businesses make when it comes to email marketing failing to convert.

Awful Subject Lines
Subject lines are crucial to getting people to open your email. But, so many businesses pick lousy or uninviting subject lines. Don’t make it too long, don’t write it all in capitals and more importantly, don’t share boring or mundane information.

It’s also good to remember that a large portion of people open emails on a mobile or tablet, the subject line on these devices is often around 25 characters, so make sure those 25 characters count.

Don’t Bore The Customer
Try to never send an email campaign that is more than three hundred words. If you do, we can guarantee that the majority of people will switch off and stop reading. Get your point across quickly and don’t waffle. It won’t win you any customers if you do. We would also recommend that you use a jovial tone throughout your campaign. People don’t want to read boring drivel.

Personalise Your Campaign
Make sure that when you send an email, you address the recipient by their first name (if you have it). If you use, Sir or Madam you will likely be flagged as spam. Make sure you take the time to check the spelling of the recipients name, there is nothing worse than sending out an email and finding you have made a mistake with the name.

Don’t Send Out The Same Information
Many businesses lose customers by sending the same email over and over again. Don’t just regurgitate information, make each email different. Your audience will contain a huge variety of people and they will want to read different content. So make sure you write compelling and different campaigns that will interest your audience.

Don’t Just Sell
Instead of just trying to persuade your audience to buy from you, try using your email marketing campaign to build a relationship or brand loyalty with them instead. You will need to build trust with them before you introduce your products or services.

If you find that you do any of the above in your email campaigns, try putting a stop to them and rectify the situation. You may then start to see significant improvements in your email marketing campaigns.
