How long do SEO results take to show?

You are here: Home / SEO / How long do SEO results take to show?

21 March 2012 //  by GleaveMedia//  8 Comments

Often for a new client the conversation quickly moves onto when they will appear on the first page of Google, a very difficult question to answer and one we use to raise a number of really important points about Search Engine Optimisation and the service we provide, here are a few headlines we usually run through;

You need to give any SEO time

There are over 354 million websites on the internet today and whenever a new website is added to the web it is uploaded to what is called a web server. The site will then sit and wait for a search engine such as Google or Bing to find it on the server it sits and then index it. We use the analogy of the Internet as a library and your site being a new book on a shelf in that library. So when your site is found by a search engine it will then go through as much of your site as it can indexing all your information so it can then place your site, on one of the pages of the internet. With more than 25 million sites being added a year, it does take a while until the search engine is even able to find your site. A client shouldn’t be worried that when they type the site into search engine nothing comes up for a few weeks or months, so long as you (and us) are working on your search engine strategy when you are indexed it will be for the right phrases and strongly.

A lot of work goes into any SEO strategy

Website is built and live on the internet and your site is indexed, so that it isn’t it? Well no, we’ve only just started as building good SEO is part of an ongoing process that should be part of your online marketing strategy. Once you’ve been indexed by the likes of Bing and Google they won’t be back unless you give them reason to do so. Your site needs content that not only brings the search engine snack but also the user back to your website. So as part of your strategy what should you be monitoring and watching, well here are some to consider:

Visitors to your site, how many and what are they doing?

Surely the most important thing for your website is visitors , how many are you getting and from which sources are they coming from, how many pages are they looking at and how ling are they on the site for. If this number falls then we need to make changes, this is part of the ongoing service that Gleave Media provide, working with with clients to ensure they can/are listed on the first page of a search engine for the given key phrases of their business.

Keyphrases, you have heard of these right?

I am sure you will have heard of the phrase ‘Content is King’? In SEO this is even more important as great content not only attracts traffic to your site but also guides the user through it. THe content and key phrases used are what guides a search engine to your site, so make sure your content is rich with these keywords. Gleave Media use a number of tools to help determine what are great keywords for your business and to support this we offer all our clients ongoing monthly plans in which we track and report on all these results on a monthly basis making any updates and changes as necessary.

There is so much more to Search Engine Optimisation and this is just a taster of what we offer to help you understand the complex world of SEO. If you want to help guide your business and talk further about your online marketing strategy then please get in touch using our contact form.

    Interesting story Alastair, the SEO arena is still a ‘dark art’ to most people, the only thing I know is if you stand still you are going backwards! Thanks for making it that bit clearer & less daunting….

    Really interesting read, thanks for sharing the information – too often this ‘dark’ art gets hidden away and as a business owner you are not quite sure where you stand.

    thanks,
