It happened rather quietly and if you’re not a Gmail user you may have missed it, a few weeks ago Google made an important change to the Gmail inbox that ‘could’ have an effect for your email marketing.
The change is significant for your email marketing as by default they may arrive into a users promotions tab not the primary tab where they are more likely to be read and acted on.
So how do you rectify this? Well if emails keep landing in promotions that you can simply drag and drop them into the primary tab, it really is as simple as that.
What are Gmail tabs?
Gmail now gives all users three tabs that email is automatically dropped into, these are Primary, Social and Promotions, to move any email from one to the other simply drag and drop, this will ensure all future emails sent from that source will now be dealt with that way.
So what does that mean for my email marketing?
You may already use some text in your email campaigns encouraging users to save the email sent from address so it doesn’t get junked, so why not for your future email marketing link a user to an update on how to manage their email in Gmail so your email campaign gets seen in the primary email box and nothing else.
